Joy tribe Newsletter Spring 2025

Have you had an experience recently that filled you with immense positivity, belonging and deep resonance?

Spending time with the wider Nia community never fails to evoke that feeling in me. There’s a unique magic that happens when we come together; a sense of connection, joy and purpose that nourishes the soul.

With this joy also comes a sense of responsibility: Why can’t everyone feel this way? We all deserve to experience this sense of vitality and community.

The Nia Australia Leadership Team holds this vision at its core. We are dedicated to sharing the gift of Nia and the powerful community spirit it inspires because Nia movement is medicine, and human connection is essential for our wellbeing.

Supporting each other to grow our community is so important. When we lift one another up, share generously, and lead with open hearts, we create more opportunities for others to step in, to feel seen, supported, and alive.

With gratitude

Nia and Mental Health

October is Mental Health Month in Australia; a time to check in with ourselves and reflect on how we’re supporting our emotional wellbeing.

While we can’t avoid life’s challenges, we can build habits that help us stay grounded. One powerful, yet often sometimes overlooked tool is movement, especially when it supports the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

A meta-analysis of 218 clinical trials involving over 14,000 people found that dance significantly reduced symptoms of depression—in some cases more effectively than walking, yoga, or even antidepressants (National GeographicThe Independent 2025).

Nia isn’t about performance, it’s about joyful, expressive movement that helps you feel present, connected, and emotionally balanced. It’s a somatic movement practice which means it promotes body-mind connection by fostering awareness of physical sensations leading to reduced stress, anxiety and depression. Practiced regularly, it can lift mood and promote greater emotional regulation and increased resilience.

This Mental Health Month, consider how Nia could become a meaningful part of your preventative self-care. Even one Nia class a week can make a noticeable difference to your wellbeing.

Art of Communication Blue Belt

Art of Communication – Blue Belt Training

I loved my AOC training with dynamic duo Sophie and Laurie.

My initial focus was to deepen my knowledge and skills, specifically to confidently teach a class. However, I discovered the training offered so much more beyond the physical and teaching aspects. I gained valuable personal relationship and communication skills that have positively impacted my every day life.

Overall, I found the AOC uplifting and fun. I have deepened my relationship with myself and others through the unique Nia approach. The training fostered a supportive environment where learning was both insightful and enjoyable.”

Nicole Walsh, Nia Australia Community Member
Nia Art of Communication (Blue Belt) is the second level on the Nia training path and is open to all Art of Sensation grads.
