Biography
When I tentatively signed up for my first Nia class in 2015, I had no idea how much Nia would change my life. Practicing Nia regularly has conditioned my body, provided an outlet for self expression and for life’s emotions, and brought me into contact with an amazing community. For me it was a natural progression to train to become a Nia teacher so I could share the many benefits with others! I now receive so much satusfaction from observing my students as they reconnect with their bodies and rediscover their own joy of movement to music.
Nia is not about ‘getting the steps right’, it is about connecting to music, moving in accordance with YOUR body’s way and above all, having FUN.

All Saints Anglican Church, Cowper Street, Ainslie ACT, Australia
Classic Nia is a joyful, low impact movement class set to beautiful music and suitable for all fitness levels. Ideal for those who love to move to music but don’t necessarily call themselves “a dancer”. In a Nia class you will follow simple movement patterns that are drawn from ancient movement practices such as Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do and Yoga as well as dance styles such as jazz, modern dance and free style dance. You’ll be guided to listen to your body, and move in your own body’s way, with no requirement to “get the steps right”. We start slowly and warm up the body, get a little more active in the middle and then finish with a cool down that is designed to calm the nervous system before we step out of class. While Nia is a barefoot practice, you are welcome to use soft soled shoes if your feet prefer extra support.
No previous dance background is necessary – just a curious mind and a willingness to move and feel.
