Biography

Carol has completed the Nia White, Blue, Green, Brown and Black Belts, 52 Moves, MoveIT, and White Belt Level 1 (Art of Teaching). Carol is based in Yamba, NSW.

“Finding Nia was like discovering parts of myself that I never knew existed! I have always loved to dance and Nia allows me to explore that passion, but it is so much more. Immersing myself in Nia has helped me discover who I am, connecting with my spirit, emotions and life force.

Since retiring to the beautiful seaside community of Yamba, I have had the opportunity to nurture my health and my body through body boarding, yoga, pilates and Nia! Immersing myself in the many Nia trainings, Playshops and retreats has given me so many insights into the richness and beauty that is Nia. This practice has deepened my body wisdom and ability to listen to and love and appreciate my body.

Having the opportunity to share Nia with my Yamba tribe has been such a joy. Seeing the smiles on their faces as they move their bodies through dance gives me a strong sense of satisfaction. We are all embracing our strength, well-being, co-ordination and creativity together, as a community. We welcome everyone with open arms and look forward to meeting each week for a fun-filled hour of dance, Nia style!”

Gentle Nia offers a nourishing whole body experience of simple movement sequences with uplifting music. Ideal for beginners, for people healing therapeutic issues (such as injury or illness), or for anybody who wants to move at a restorative, slower pace.

Class begins in a chair to feel supported and sense alignment. We learn the art of moving in a chair together. Participants then have the option to move to standing, returning to seated at any time, the focus being on pleasure, ease and gentle conditioning. We learn to listen to our bodies and adjust as needed.

Benefits include feeling more centred, improved balance and flexibility, intrinsic conditioning, and a felt sense of joy.

A Classic Nia class is a sensory-based, cardio movement class to music that blends 52 moves with martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts – body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Open to all levels.

For Nia feel free to wear any exercise or comfortable clothing that makes you feel good and free to move. Bring along a water bottle and a towel or yoga mat if you have one. Nia is designed to be practised barefoot. If there are physical reasons not to practise barefoot, soft sole shoes can be worn.
