Biography

Sarah completed her White Belt Training under the direction of Sophie Marsh in 2017, and she began teaching in April 2018. Sarah discovered Nia in Beijing in 2015 and danced there, in Cambodia and now Melbourne Australia.

“To dance Nia is to open oneself to expression, power, tenderness, Joy, vulnerability and strength. The simultaneous conditioning of the dancer’s body, mind and spirit is undeniable when they move through the 52 moves and allow the music to inspire their movement. I found and embodied Nia, and have never looked back. It has been a place where I can be myself, and to love myself for who I am everyday. It is this gift of Joy that I want to share with everyone in my community!”

I believe Nia is a powerful practice that is adaptable to one’s ever fluid abilities. I teach strong classes, while personally listening to my own body and paying close attention to the energy of my students. I guide my students through the moves with an invitation for them to exercise self compassion and care, while inspiring them to reach beyond their perceived limitations.

Classic Nia is a joyful, low impact, movement class inspired by soul-stirring music.  Nia’s unique blend of martial arts, dance and mindfulness gives you an energizing cardio workout that benefits – body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  You will be guided to listen to your body and practice being with sensations of pleasure and easeAdaptable for all ages and fitness levels.  Nia meets you where you’re at and invites you to move in your own body’s way.

For Nia feel free to wear any exercise or comfortable clothing that makes you feel good and free to move. Bring along a water bottle and a towel.

Nia is designed to be practiced barefoot.  If there are physical reasons not to practice barefoot, soft sole shoes can be worn.
