Biography

Sarah completed her White Belt Training under the direction of Sophie Marsh in 2017. She began teaching in April 2018 and loves every moment of it. Sarah discovered Nia in Beijing in 2015 and has danced it there as well as in Cambodia and now, Melbourne Australia.

“To dance Nia is to open oneself to expression, power, tenderness, Joy, vulnerability and strength. The simultaneous conditioning of the dancer’s body, mind and spirit is undeniable when they move through the 52 moves and allow the music to inspire their movement.

I found and embodied Nia, and have never looked back. It has been a place where I could be myself and to love myself for who I was everyday. It is this gift of Joy that I want to share with men and women in my community!”

Classic Nia is a joyful, low impact, movement class inspired by soul-stirring music.  Nia’s unique blend of martial arts, dance and mindfulness gives you an energizing cardio workout that benefits – body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  You will be guided to listen to your body and practice being with sensations of pleasure and easeAdaptable for all ages and fitness levels.  Nia meets you where you’re at and invites you to move in your own body’s way.

For Nia feel free to wear any exercise or comfortable clothing that makes you feel good and free to move. Bring along a water bottle and a towel.

Nia is designed to be practiced barefoot.  If there are physical reasons not to practice barefoot, soft sole shoes can be worn.
