Biography

Having worked and performed in the dance industry, where competition, external appearance and the ‘no pain, no gain’ mentality was prevalent, Emily fell in love with Nia’s focus on inclusivity, fun, self-expression, self-care and self-acceptance. By dancing Nia, Emily has learnt to listen more deeply and clearly to her body’s needs, which has lead to a softness in her movement and approach to life. With regular Nia practice, Emily is better able to mindfully choose joy and sustain a sense of ease and flow in her life.

Emily is very proud to offer Nia classes, that make dance and fitness accessible to children and adults of all ages, levels of experience and physical facility. Participants have an opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing, express and create, feel connected to a conscious community and discover joy in movement, all in a safe and supportive environment.

Emily studied a Bachelor of Arts (Dance and Theatre Studies) and a Bachelor of Education, and additionally completed her Nia Blue Belt teacher accreditation. Emily is currently the Head of Dance at Gungahlin College and is the Founder and Director of Energy in Motion – Dance and Wellbeing, through which she teaches Nia classes and in-school creative dance programs.

  • 10 class pass – $150
  • Casual – $20

Payments can made in cash or via EFT on the day.

Classes are held in line with the ACT public school term.

For Nia feel free to wear any exercise or comfortable clothing that makes you feel good and free to move.  Bring along a water bottle and a towel or yoga mat if you have one.

Nia is designed to be practised barefoot.  If there are physical reasons not to practise barefoot, soft sole shoes can be worn.

Classic Nia is a joyful, low impact, movement class inspired by soul stirring music.  Nia’s unique blend of martial arts, dance and mindfulness gives you an energising cardio workout that benefits – body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  You will be guided to listen to your body and practice being with sensations of pleasure and ease.  Adaptable for all ages and fitness levels.  Nia meets you where you’re at and invites you to move in your own body’s way.
