Nia is an opportunity to celebrate beingness. It's the culmination of a dance that begins in the deepest parts of our souls. A dance inspired by movement and music, and realized by the wisdom of the body, it evolves to become a very emotive journey of self-expression. It is to my absolute pleasure that I can see personalities emerging and sparkling as I take my class through a Nia routine. Voices change, eyes light up, and joyful awareness abounds. Nia offers an alternative to the stagnant paradigm of health that we have been subscribing to. Thus far the paradigm has been to move to achieve some physical goal. More pushups than yesterday, or more steps on the pedometer. There's no need to be this dry about fitness anymore, because Nia delivers fitness and it also delivers a lot more; joy, compassion, confidence, assertiveness, healing and co-ordination. When you have all of this in a 'workout', you operate under the pleasure principle, and that is so much more gratifying.
As I continue on my own
personal Nia journey with my students, I recognize the unique ability
of Nia to build awareness, empower and heal the ocean of souls that is
our world. When you tune into your unique body, many
truths may be revealed and receive acceptance. This is your personal
power and body-wisdom in realization. This is how you enlighten your body. I love this quote from Osho because it makes it clear why a healthy attachment to our bodies is so vital.
“Begin
the feeling of wonder with your own body, because that is the closest
to you. The closest nature has approached to you, the closest existence
has come to you, is through the body. In your body is the water of the
oceans, in your body is the fire of the stars and the sun, in your body
is the air, your body is made of the earth." – Osho

Student feedback
"I want to express to you how much I enjoyed your workshop today. I have been buzzing all afternoon since we Latin Moved. I went to the supermarket on my way home, and had to contain myself from dancing down the aisles to the music when collecting my groceries. I guess the dancer in me is activated!!! I feel hyped and happy - joyous and happy." - Paula
"Even for a "BLOKE" it was lots of fun. Your exuberance is very infectious." - David
" I first started with some hesitation as I was not sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised - it is a relaxing and motivating form of movement that is a joy to do. The fusion class combines a good cardio workout with relaxation and meditative moves that make me feel extremely relaxed and calm after the class. If feel as if my mind and body have been cleansed and I am ready to move forward. I like the class because it does not feel like exercise and time flies as you are just in the moment of enjoying the space and the dance with a lovely group of non-judgment people. It has such a positive environment where you can just let go and be yourself without having to worry about how you look. Su-lin is an inspiring and peaceful teacher whose external and inner beauty shine through her dance moves and they are easy to follow even for me." - Kathy
"I really enjoyed the workshop on sunday. It flowed, it was challenging, it was fun... The music was perfect and the ideas you had worked beautifully. Thank you for being so creative." - Tania

"You feel so comfortable, confident and unrestrained – which really allows the rest of the class to feel exactly the same way. I am really enjoying the unique ‘Su-lin’ spin you bring to the Nia technique, and LOVE how you emphasize doing the moves in ‘your way’ - this really allows me to totally let go and be in a really, deep internal space that is so rejuvenating. I have been coming out of the classes having touched a place deep inside, and I feel connected and ALIVE. I love it. The way you move your body, the passion you have for it, really speaks to me." - Emma
"I really enjoyed your class. Especially liked saying, "Mmmmmmm" to my pelvis, which I think we woman often do not honor as a temple of our children and our female sacredness." - Regina
"Great class :)... " - Mark
"All power to you & thank-you for inspiring the rest of us ( WOMEN ) with your passion in "Dance", we need more beautiful souls like you. I have no doubt that "Woman Moves" will continue to evolve, you've planted a beautiful seed, I simply wish you an abundance of joy as you watch "it" grow. Thank-you for creating a safe space for us to "just be".... it was invigorating at the same time nurturing !!!" - Yeh-Lee
"I am so grateful for the wisdom, grace & compassion that you shared with us all during the dancing. I feel that already NIA and the connections that I have made through it, have brought me new knowing and health. I have been looking to find such holistic movement for a long time & I am so delighted to have found it!" - Arwen
"A big thank you for a lovely workshop yesterday it truly got me inspired to learn more about Nia. The group was lovely and you two teachers had a beautiful energy, you are fab! Wow - it was great!" - Paulina
"Su-lin has such a genuine, joyful presence. She sets a tone which encourages me to relax, explore, and express myself freely during her terrific Nia class." - Jill (Nia White Belt, Chicago)
"I wanted to thank you for the last class – it was perfect! Exquisite! Exactly what I have been looking for. Great space. And yet I have to say, apart from the technique, space, music etc – it is really you that inspires me. I have worked with a lot of dancers, and never seen someone so consciously embody every pore of their body in the way that you do. It is enthralling to watch. This is really my aim, my direction – to bring my presence into every joint, every muscle, every pore." - Emma
"The concept of a low impact/high energy dance/martial arts/healing arts fusion captured my curiosity, and after just one Nia class I was addicted. I look forward to class every week where other like minded souls gather to spend an hour exploring movement and reconnecting with our bodies. Our instructor Su-lin skillfully guides us through our creative journey as we move to the sound of melodic grooves. Each of us re-inventing ourselves like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, leaving class with a renewed sense of purpose, direction, energy and peace. I love Nia!" - Dayl
"I really enjoy it, it's unlocked something in my hips. I saw my AT techer this morning and my hips are just sensational, must be all the pelvic thrusting or the chicken dance. - Jeff
"Nia is one of the best classes I have ever experienced. Combining different techniques into one class. I would call it a magical experience. When participating in a Nia class you forget about the outside world and learn to let go. Nia focuses on good energy. It is physical and very good for your soul. After a Nia class you feel completely relaxed all your stress and anxiety's seem to disappear. Its well worth checking it out." - Becky
"I'd been very sick for the last few years and so hadn't really done much movement for such a long time after dancing for years before that. This was such a great way to begin the process of finding that movement again and becoming aware of how my body works and moves (now that it does again!). I don't want to bore you, but it really felt like a beautiful awakening! I enjoyed the whole Nia experience and the workshop. I thought you gave such a good intro to the whole philosophy of it and the movement forms. And it was so much fun!" - Claire - new convert
