Sonya Madden
White Belt Instructor
Growing up I was a dancer. I performed regularly winning trophies and awards at competitions and community events. I have a background in Jazz, Hip Hop, and various other forms of dance, also doing many years of training in Ballet until the teen years drew me more to competitive sports and less towards the softer more flowing movements that come from dance. Fast forward into my early twenties and I begun hunting around for dance classes once again. Dance always called me. It felt like it was my soul. I had to find it again. I tried Hip Hop and Street, some Latin and even some ballroom but nothing felt like the right fit – until one day during an internet search I came across a NIA class offered in my local area in Sydney.
So began my NIA journey which has been unfolding for over 4 years now. I completed White Belt training and found the experience life changing. NIA is not only a fun work out for me but it is deeply spiritual and emotional. I find I lack balance in my life when NIA is missing. I lose emotional outlets for any negative emotions or thoughts which I can safely vent in NIA returning back to passion and bliss. I have had NIA routines move me to tears and routines move me to laughter. NIA touches me deeply.
I have always felt called to share NIA with the community but this has been an evolving journey. The universe has recently called me to the ACT so now is the opportunity for me to share NIA with our friends in Canberra/A.C.T. Share in the beauty, depth and experience of NIA.
