Nia is a new dance style from the U.S combining dance arts and martial arts including; Modern dance, Jazz, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Yoga. It is a form of dance that focuses on the JOY of moving your body, your body’s way to funky specially chosen music. Nia uses combinations of 52 moves that are designed to use every single part of your body, dancing is done barefoot, and includes floor play, using your imagination and making sounds.
Kate is an early childhood and primary school teacher and an artist.
She holds degrees in both these fields and has ten years experience teaching children. She has worked as a general classroom teacher, as well as specialising in teaching drama, dance, art and PE. She has worked as a PE teacher for a number of years for the Active and Healthy Lifestyle Program run by the Brisbane City Council in parks around Brisbane. Kate has had her own kid’s party and entertainment business. She is also a face painter and an airbrush face and body artist.
Kate brings a love of life itself to her classes. She is passionate about children, and all forms of art including music, dance, art, design, fashion, and song writing.
She is highly creative and has a keen sense of humour and a playful nature.
Kate invites your child to join with her in one of her favourite pleasures in life, teaching Nia to children and celebrating movement of the physical body.
Benefits of children taking Nia classes include;
“We dance to fall in love with the spirit of all things. To wipe out memory or transform it into moves that nobody else can make because they didn’t live it. We dance to hook up to the genius lurking within us, to seek refuge in our originality and our power and to reinvent ourselves. Shed the past, forget the future and fall into the moment feet first. This is our dance.” Gabrielle Roth.
