Julie Bartley
Julie is a trained Nia teacher and comes from a dance and healing arts background. She has a Diploma in Shiatsu and Aromatherapy, a Dip Ed (Prim) and has completed the Journey Practitioner Program. She brings a freshness and enthusiasm to her classes. The emphasis is to have fun and enjoy the process of moving our bodies, no matter what age or experience.
“My first Nia experience woke me up to the joy of movement again – something I hadn’t experienced since a child. I realized that nothing else can give me such a powerful surge of energy and joy as Nia. Nia brings this to me right here, right now ."
“It is my desire to find the key that helps us sustain our self care in mind, body and spirit”.

"Change Your Body, Change Your Life!"
Student feedback
In my Nia class last week there was a different teaching arrangement and it sent me into a too-familiar place of resistance. I didn't accept the change! But the class had begun and doing as well as I could I then began to realise and observe my resistance (rather than just being in it). It was so interesting! I saw how my behaviour had become protective and fearful. As I kept moving and dancing I realised (with a good laugh at myself) that the change was OK, and that I was OK, I could let go of the defence and I had 'moved through' a very old blocking pattern. Yay Nia!
Kerry, Ocean Shores
What Nia has done for me is bring me back into my body in a playful, creative, safe and coordinated way. After every class I feel transformed on all levels. I love the community of dancers that Nia attracts.
Turiya, Ocean Shores
I have been dancing with Julie Bartley for some weeks now and find it to be
completely liberating. Not only does it resonate with me physically but also
mentally and spiritually. I have had chronic pain in my right hip and I
have found that the dance loosens up this area of my body and I no longer
suffer this pain.
Laura Booth
My first Nia class was a joy and an eye opening experience that reminded me of the importance of moving my body. It was freeing to say the least. As someone who works with with my mind for a living, focussing only on the intellectual, I found it exhilarating to see my hand waft past my face in one of the moves, and to suddenly understand that I actually had more "bits" to me than just my brain. Who knows which other "bits" I might be able to discover and then start to move!
Denise, Ocean Shores
I've done many many forms of exercise ranging from aerobics to iyengar yoga but having had just a sample of NIA, I can see that it 'takes the cake' --- in fact it's the cherry on top! For me it is delightful to move to funky music, dance, be creative, tone and strengthen and above all, it is fun.
Annette Janover, Byron Bay
Nia is a combination of all I have done before-yoga,dance,martial arts,
somatic bodywork. Is is relaxing, easy and fun! I love it. Thankyou.
Sharon - Mullumbimby
I am working with healers to overcome old sports injuries causing
restrictions. I have tried yoga and other dance classes but the twisting
stopped me in dance and positions on the floor in yoga. However with Nia I
enjoy dancing, stretching, strengthening and more, to work with my
structural corrections using yin/yang balancing principles.
Richard, Tai Chi teacher -Suffolk Park
"Nia has been a liberating, relaxing and self healing experience that I
intend to incorporate into my life. The benefits I have felt are numerous
including: easing pressure on my lower back caused by scoliosis (curvature
of the spine) and creating more supple movement in areas of my back, which
is of great relief. Nia seems to help me release the blockages I have
stored in my back for years. Julie provides an atmosphere where you are
free of inhibitions and open to connect with your body, mind and spirit. I
get fit and have fun as well!".
Kristin, Mullumbimby
The Nia dance classes with Julie are what I've been looking for: a
chance to experience the joy and aliveness in my body, re-awaken
forgotten bits of myself and make new discoveries, as well as get fit.
After a class I feel good for the rest of the day. It's easy and
enjoyable to move in this way.
