Janet Walker

Nia dance instructor

Nia works on many levels and that’s what I love about it. It strengthens the body, calms the mind and opens the heart. Nia is empowering. It brings us home to the body and grounds us in the present. It builds community, ignites creativity and oxygenates the brain.

Coming from a background which included dancing, teaching ceramic art, facilitating women’s circles and hospitality, becoming a Nia instructor felt like a natural progression. After experiencing for my self the joy Nia has brought to my life I am excited and honored to share with others the fusion of structure, expressive freedom and healing that Nia brings. The body centered approach makes it accessible for Every Body and is fun.

I aspire to make my Nia class a highlight of the week for those who come.

Student Feedback

“I just wanted to express my gratitude to you for bringing Nia into my life. I had for so long been looking for a fitness programme that would suit my needs and had tried all the usual things on offer but nothing seemed to tick all the boxes.
I was looking for something that was not going to exacerbate a major disc problem in my lower back and neck. I also wanted, dare I say it, something that would make exercising fun!

When I moved to the Northern Rivers I was very excited at all the options available such as yoga, pilates and qigong. I was hoping that one of these would provide me with what I was looking for, but sadly they only seemed to aggravate the problem.

When a friend recommended Nia, I was naturally skeptical, but after explaining my concerns to you I was buoyed by your belief that Nia would in fact be of considerable help to someone with my condition. After six weeks of doing Nia twice weekly, it would be an understatement to say what a difference it has made to my wellbeing and how much I love it. Not only has it vastly improved the range of movement in my spine, it has all but removed the constant pain that I have endured for the past few years. My visits to the chiropractor have been substantially reduced and I am not popping pain killers on a regular basis.

I am, therefore, thrilled with the health benefits that Nia has achieved for me. Add to that the sense of fun and joy that it provides me I can’t wait for the next class to come around!

It goes without saying Janet that any class is only as good as the teacher. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher, for bringing your own special brand of gentleness and compassion along each week and for making Nia the joyful and health giving experience I have found it to be.”

With warmest regards,

Sandra Wheeler.
