Every time I step into a Nia class, I know I’m in for a treat. As I begin to move, I sense how balanced, energising, respectful and nourishing these movements are – I can feel it doing me good.
For years I danced as a professional dancer in the Australian Ballet Company and as the lead dancer and dance teacher in The Phantom of the Opera. I know what it’s like to push your body until it hurts. There’s a time and a place for that, but there’s times when you just want to dance to feel good, or to express yourself.
Now I want the joy of dancing, of being fit and vibrant, and of having the freedom to move my body in my own personal and luxurious way. That’s what so special about Nia and what sets it apart from other classes.
One of the ideas in Nia that especially appeals to me is the practice of ‘Dancing Through Life’. That’s what I want to share and explore with my students. To give them the chance to discover a very personal and harmonious practice that is safe, joyful, inspiring and can be carried beyond the classroom to add spark to our daily life. So...let’s dance!
