Anita Patterson has a background in teaching and music. She was invited to come and try a Nia class by a friend who is a Nia instructor – curiosity and a free Monday morning lead her there, and she has never looked back!
“Nia gives me the opportunity to feel joy, explore creative expression, increase physical strength and fitness and brings me inner wellbeing, all through moving to very enticing, funky and liberating music!”
Anita embraces the opportunities that Nia presents to find healing through movement, where the emphasis is on your own body sensation.
Anita completed her Nia White Belt Training in 2007 and Blue Belt in 2010, and now teaches both adult and children’s classes in Sydney.
Nia provides a unique movement experience that massages the body, mind and spirit.
“For me, Nia is my flame: moving, flickering, dynamic, warming, inviting, peaceful and inspiring! It is what grounds me and guides me, and yet gives me the freedom to play with my creative spirit. I am very passionate about sharing Nia with everyBody!”

“I love to dance and express myself through music. As I get older, there are less and less opportunities to do this gracefully. I have been going to Nia for 2 years and have found that it really fills this need for me. It gives me an avenue for exercise and fitness, whilst at the same time allowing me to dance and have fun. Nia is about the joy of movement, and I think it a very apt expression. Anita is an excellent instructor. She is creative, lively and inspired. I would recommend her classes to all ages at all stages.”

“I joined Nia with no background in dance, and was hesitant wondering if men did do Nia classes. Anita assured me that Nia was popular with men in US. She has a beautiful flowing style that allows people of all level of fitness and skill to participate with ease and benefit. I have experienced greater flexibility, range of movement and balance after attending these Nia sessions for a few months.” Royston Rodrigues
“I'm fairly new to Nia so having a teacher like Anita who makes everything clear and easy to follow is great. This class is perfect for all levels and you can make it as challenging as you want or keep it simple to start off with then build up to the more advanced moves.
Like a lot of people I suffer from lower back pain. By the end of each Nia class I feel so much more supple and really feel I've stretched out my spine and got everything moving again.
I often find in the middle of a class I'm smiling to myself - sometimes it might be because I've fumbled a move but usually it's because I'm having a great time!” Rose
“Nia is very new to me, but already, during the classes, I feel immersed in a sense of rhythm and fluid movement I have never experienced in any other form of exercise.” Liz
“What can I say? I love Nia, especially Anita’s classes. I look forward to my Monday class every week. I find it a fun and a unique type of exercise that doesn't get boring. It never feels like I am doing that much during the class, but the next day I feel every muscle in my body, which is a good thing. So even though you are having fun, you don't realize how much exercise you are doing until the day after :) I highly recommend Anita’s class to anyone who wants to get away from repetitive exercise and have fun while doing it.” Annette
